From Summer to Fall: Preparing for a New Season

I feel the change of the season coming. It may still be in the 90s, but there’s a shift in the air. The crows are cawing and there’s a difference in the leaves on the trees. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but it seems like there’s a faint hint of coolness at times.
Our old house project is finally drawing to a close. We are wrapping up a few final things and moving in. I’ve been unpacking and attempting to find a place for all of my stored-away treasures. It’s proving to be a challenge in this old house with limited storage space, but I’m excited to get settled in just in time for my favorite season… fall!
I enjoy the slow down that comes with fall. I am especially looking forward to it as we exit this busy season we have been in for the last couple of years. I’m looking forward to crackling fires, cozy evenings under a blanket and comfort food that usually only comes around during the cooler months. As we welcome in the change of the season, here are a few simple things we can do to prepare our homes for the slower, cooler days ahead.

5 ways to prepare for the fall season
Fill a basket with throw blankets. On a cool evening, it’s nice to have blankets nearby. Set out a basket or chest where you can keep a collection of throw blankets within arm’s reach. Blankets also add a cozy touch to your living room.
Wash jackets, scarves and hats. After months of being stored away, pull out your winterwear and get it washed and ready to be worn. When you step out on that first crisp morning, you’ll be glad to have a clean jacket ready to wear.
Make a place for books, boardgames and puzzles. With the sun setting earlier, you’ll be spending more time inside during the evenings. Don’t spend all of that time in front of a screen! Create a space in your living room for books, boardgames and puzzles for evening entertainment.
Chop and store firewood. Whether you have a fireplace in your home or a fire ring in your backyard, start chopping and stacking wood to prepare for those fireside chats and s’mores.
Stock your pantry. Cool weather is baking weather! Be ready for impromptu requests by filling your pantry with baking staples and seasonal favorites like pumpkin spice, canned apples and pumpkin. And of course, don’t forget the hot chocolate!
While I don’t want to rush the final days of summer, I will admit that I’ll happily welcome fall with open arms!
Here’s some sweet vintage music for you to enjoy while you tackle these preparatory tasks and slowly ease into the fall mood.

Love this time of year! Great tips for cozier days ahead. We have a lot of littles and switching hats and jackets and boots is quite an endeavor each year!
Thank you. So do I!
Yes it is… We have a few less these days but it’s still a job for sure. 🙂
The playlist is awesome! I feel like this blog is 100% for me. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
Thanks so much! Glad you’re enjoying all of it. 🙂
Love this list! I am adding a few more from here to my to do list!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
I loved reading this, it just made me cozy! Although I live in zone 8b and it doesn’t get that cold here, we still have our version of “winter” jackets and cycle in our “winter” clothes. I wash the clothes, but why have I not thought to wash the jackets?! (Face palm) And this post made me realize another thing… I need more cozy throw blankets. 🙂
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. I do understand..we are back in zone 9 and winter just isn’t winter here. Although we did get sa bit of snow last year. I enjoy a good cold winter but I’ll take what we get when we get it. Ha!
Love this! Fall is my favorite season! Thank you for the tips and for dating the vintage music!
Thank you and you’re welcome!
